Its in the cards

I am puzzled by this draw. Moving forward with the change in careers continues to be a good move and, at first glance, this is puzzling. With the 4 of Cups, I've been dreaming, and withdrawn from the world; the Hermit suggests introspection to either give or receive guidance.

Tarotteachings suggests that this card is about ideas, lessons, contemplation, an epiphany. This mermaid has escaped from the rat race that is her home; she is thinking. That would be an accurate description of how Ronnie and I have been lately. He and I are both working through a career change and thinking before we act, being careful not to burn bridges we may need later has been a high priority. Stepping out of our lives to view 'things' for another angle.

The Hermit is my reminder to be deliberate and conscious of my steps; listen to my intuition, which may be contrary to the world's incessant babbling. This change, for me anyway, flies in the face of what my family would suggest or even like. It actually flies in the face of what I see happening in the world around me.

Confirmation, part 2

Earlier I posted about reading a spread instead of just a few cards, to get the whole picture on my career shift from insurance agent to massage therapist. The last three cards provide the final confirmation that I am on the right tract.

The 'To Do's are the 3 and 9 of Wands. The 3 of wands is familiar to me; take a step of faith - the path will materialize before you. The 9, vigilance, being prepared.

Following this advise, leads me to the Queen of Swords; she is a force to be reckoned with. From the site:

The blinding white is the color of purity, honesty, clarity, uncompromised balance; but also of distance, and sometimes death, for sometimes to get to truth one must cast off the old to discard pretense and guile.

She advises to get my thoughts organized and trust my instincts.

Confirmation, part 1

Today I decided to use more than just a two card draw. My dilemna is in the career change from anal insurance agent to massage therapist. Not just anyone can walk in off the street and become an insurance agent. There is passing the test to get the license and then there is passing the background check.

The cards tell me one thing while others advice in an angled direction. I believe that direction can be provided from both sources and perhaps a two card draw is not enough to confirm (or deny) that verbal advise.

This spread, from the Shadowscapes Companion, is called Dream Come True.

I drew the following cards:

1. Strongest Aspect = King of Pentacles
2. Helpful Energy = 10 of Cups
3. Weakest Aspect = Queen of Cups
4 & 5. To Do = 3 of Wands and 9 of Wands
6. Outcome = Queen of Swords

At first glance, I see lots of Royalty: one King and two Queens, the only suit missing is of Wands. Needs I see mostly Cups and Wands, with each suit represented.

Not sure I wanted to break this down too much, but let's see where this goes. Court Cards, as a rule, deal with the human psyche and personality; there are parts of my psyche that will help and hinder this endeavor. As I already have an idea of what those are, let's see what the cards say.

The strongest aspect is the King of Pentacles. This card, I believe, represents Ronnie. He is steadfast and loyal. He has been employed for the last 20 years and only closed his business when the paperwork and taxes (he had 3 employees) became too much. He has the experience.

Helpful Energy shows the 10 of Cups. Family support, lasting success, attaining the hearts desire.
The family support is key here.

The last card I'll cover in this post is the weakest aspect; the Queen of Cups. Doubting my instincts. Those instincts fly in the face of what I perceive to be going on around me.

Time for a change, just be clear on what you want to change

I can talk about this here as it will create less panic with you than with those that follow The Ward House...like my Mom and landlord.

This Four appears at an interesting time; I am moving from an insurance agent job to massage therapy. Being a NCMT (nationally certified massage therapist) will provide a more generous income though, perhaps, not as consistent. The consistency will be what I make of it - developing a devote client base will be key. As mentioned before, Four's represent stability, structure, or stagnation. I am stagnant in the insurance job and my health is beginning to pay the price. It is a guaranteed income each month and that is nice...Back to, my health at what price?

Aces deal with beginnings and Swords with thoughts and awareness. The Ace of Swords usually deals with aligning oneself; focus on the issue at hand and align accordingly. This is a power card, carrying the same 'weight' as a Major Arcana card. A time to cut away old ideas and make way for a new perspective; a better way. Swords are sharp therefore, the intent needs to be clear before beginning (credit to tarotteachings.com).

These cards stem from my upcoming/current career change. I have worked for a corporation since 18 and, well, going to work for myself is a new frontier for me. Ronnie has been self employed for several decades so it is his knowledge and expertise that I am looking to as I move from a desk job to a massage table. The monetary and health rewards will be worth the move; the paperwork and change in paradigm will be new.

A pair of 9s

Sounds like I know a little sumthin about poker yes? Umm, no. This was an interesting pair up though. Nine's represent attainment and completion. As with all endings, there follows a beginning. For example, when we move through the Tarot, 1+2+3+4+5+6+7+8+9 = 45 and when reduced 4+5=9; yup, back to the beginning. Not convinced? Take any number times 9 then reduced it down and guess what? Reduces down to the number 9.

The 9 of Pentacles: Pentacles represent the material. I am at the end of and yet the beginning of another monetary cycle. This is a balance between the material and spiritual; "understanding and appreciating the wealth that one already possesses." Notice how she plays a song from memory, that flows from her fingertips. The snail's shell spiral is reflected in the branches of the tree from which the piano 'grows'. Growing up, Daddy often spoke of the spiral and how it represents the 'golden mean ratio'. The golden mean is...well..complicated - to me anyway. I know it is related to phi and understand what I read about it; it is too complicated for me to try to explain here. Let's just say, it is proof of planned creation.

The second 9 for today is the 9 of Cups. It looks as if he is basking in the light and essence that swirls up from the cup. Fish are a symbol of prosperity, health, and good fortune. This card indicates that future bounty is assured.

I need to get a gold fish for my massage practice.

Fourth New Moon of 2011

April's new moon occurred on the 3rd bringing with it the Page of Cups.

Sentimental, romantic, sympathetic, intuition

Interesting that she should appear for April; Ronnie and I were married on April 10th. How ironic! On a whim I drew a card on April 10th and it was the lovers.

This month is about listening to that still voice from within that speaks with understanding and intuition; look beyond the hustle and bustle of the everyday for the quiet beyond. Enjoy the simple and the now.

Third Moon of 2011

Yup, just a little late. From the annual draw, the March new moon card is the Page of Pentacles. Pages, overall, represent dreamers; the forces of creativity, devotion, sensitivity, a messenter (from tarotteachings). The element of Pages is earth and they are the essence of transition, showing us how to move smoothly from one life phase to another; a muse.

Because this is the Page of Pentacles, she is sharing news of the material world: finances, or domestic issues. Notice how she is perched on a stone, the dragon slumbers at her feet, curled around the base. She holds an orb in her hands. I touched on dragon symbolism when writing about the second new moon of 2011.

In retrospect, I see this as the herald of Ronnie's and my marriage in April. Marrying Ronnie creates a financial challenge, especially next tax season. This is the month that I began my massage business.

Worldly Cups

Crazy days, these last few have been. I am Inn sitting for a friend (Meadow Lane Lodge & Cottages), checking in with my regular job and waiting for scheduling at the Spa. *whew* Thrown into all this was yesterday's drawing and the fact that I have totally dropped the ball on the new moon spread. *sighs* Baaaad card mommy.

Yesterday's draw includes two cards that have frequented my draws as of late: the 7 of Cups and the World.

I have been scattered lately, holding down one full time job, a part time at the spa (few hours) and then helping my friend out here at the Inn. Seeing this card means I need to listen to Ronnie more and focus on what is attainable and close. Not that dreaming is out of the question, it is just not practical at the moment.

The World adds a different twist to this drawing. A sense of contentment, achieving balance, piece of mind. Actually, when I think about my future in massage therapy, there is a sense of contentment and quiet. Now just to get into that full time.

Interesting that the two is a card close to the Ace of beginnings and the World is the end of the Major Arcana. A blend of the everyday with an overal sense of the Major.

Schweet.

Interesting week with some interesting cards. Monday's was the three of cups and another card which I cannot remember (really need to write these down EVERYDAY!) and then yesterday I had the Knight of Wands and the Two of Swords.

The Knight has visited before with a first appearance of this deck's 2 of Swords.

To use the Shadowscapes site, it read like an interesting evening. Writing this the next day, I now see where everything was going.
This Knight represents my daugher's boyfriend - the one that Ronnie dislikes with a passion. This boy is a typical teenage male: he can be arrogant and strong willed (traits that my love also possesses), he has striking looks and charming words. An interesting statement, from TarotTeachings.com is that this knight arrives to shake things up and create movement, even a paradigm shift. Yup, creates much conflict in my household.

My first impression from this two of Swords is of Ronnie baring the way; neither of the swans gifts is considered. Swords deal in communication and thoughts; while the sword bearer appears to be prepared there is also a sense of patience. Ronnie is not patient though he has been tolerant. The sliver moon up top seems to indicate an intuitive response is needed; things are not as they appear.

Ronnie has such a strong reaction to this boy that I cannot 'poo poo' it as a testosterone thing (a male on another male's territory). To date, he has been an excellent judge of character so I am going to watch and wait. Time will tell (says the moon).

Concentrated patience

Since passing my therapeutic massage test, the last few days have been spent decompressing. Today, the 8 of Pentacles and 5 of Wands spoke.

After passing the boards on Thursday, Friday I submitted the paperwork for my license, issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia's Department of Nursing. From prior drawings, I see the 8 of Pentacles as time to pick back up with working with my mentor (we took time off for me to finish studying for the boards) and the 5 of Wands as the final hoop and exercise in patience; waiting for my paperwork, from various agencies, to reach the Department of Nursing so my license can be issued.

While the 5 of Wands, from this deck, has appeared before, it is not a drawing I have posted here. This 5 of Wands is about going against the flow, the thrill of competition; strife, struggle, and rising to the challenge.

A Lull

Today I stayed home from work to nurse an ongoing headache. Allow me, this is the result of too many late nights coupled with some stressful times. So, I sat in bed and drew the following:

The 10 of Pentacles; the 10 representing completion and pentacles representing resources.

Enjoying affluence and financial security, luxury, good fortune, a traditionalist, rooted to convention and to rules.

This card, along with the 4 of Swords (rest from strife) represent a closure of sorts. My return arrived, bills can now be caught up (or paid off) and I am now in a lull, sort of speak. My massage therapy test is scheduled for 2/24, my article for the Crone's Gazette is complete (a second article - I did not like the first), and now I am resting (and studying) before the next big push. *sigh*

Moving into the light

Had a good work session with my therapeutic massage mentor (TMM). With the Grist Mill in a state of flux, I am not scheduled to work this morning; which is good as it allows me to clean a bit more off my plate before taking this on. The certification board and Dabney are both still jacking me around over graduation so I'm just going with the flow.

Perhaps, that is why the appearance of the six of swords; Change, passage from difficulties, de'spondence. Yes, that kind of sums it up for me.

The Kind of Wands has been by several times, though draws I have posted here. He represents the courage and strength to walk the path less traveled; The heart of a lion.

My message is, while moving away from difficulties and a sense of frustration and despair, I am also moving into the light, and continue along the chosen path. The King of Wands is lighting the way.

Double Wands

This draw was done while sitting in the parking lot at work. After being awake for most of the night (we ate out last night - not a good idea), my morning was a bit crazy and I ended up grabbing the deck as I headed out the door. So the parking lot draw was the knight and page of wands.

This is only the Knights second appearance, the first being in October of 2009. While the Legacy Tarot speaks of rushing in, this Knight appears to be holding back. The companion speaks of his presence sparking rivalry and conflict, perhaps as the result of a cocky and assured attitude and self-confidence. The warning?

Be wary of allowing the wild tempter and flaming energy of this knight to cause discord and interruption.

On his tail appears the Page of Wands. She has shared with me before; Creative, passionate, charismatic, and outspoken about her philosophy. Yesterday I had a coworker share with me that I was 'interesting'. =) A discrete way of stating the above.

The 2nd New Moon, 4 of Pentacles

Nothing like moving in sequence, eh? The 2nd New Moon for 2011 is today, February 3rd. The first moon was the 3 of pentacles, the second is the 4 of pentacles. I love the artwork on this card; dragons especially.

Fours stand for structure, stability, or stagnation. Pentacles are money, resources or the body. The dragon, in eastern cultures, represent wisdom and power, many with magical abilities; bringing fortune and good luck. Dragons are often seen guarding wealth, similar to what this guy is doing.

The Shadowscapes site states:

Possessive, wanting to be in control, limitations, adversity to change, obstructing, denial of weakness

Well, February had an interesting beginning with the news of the Grist Mill's change in ownership, the uncertainty of my therapeutic massage career, and the unrest in the Middle East; yes, that will have a direct consequence here in the states.

I believe each card carries wisdom and a warning - for me, this moon, I need to use wisdom and discernment when it comes to our resources. Hoarding limits ones ability to live and creates shackles and a cage. Hoarding, for hoarding's sack, is dangerous. I see February full of good things!

All we are is dust in the wind

My silence, as of late, has been the product of keeping my hands and feet inside the ride at all times and waiting for the ride to come to a complete stop before trying to exit. In light of this topsy turvey happening, today's heralds include the 8 of Wands and the Hanged Man. This eight has not appeared for me in a daily draw:

Journeying towards a goal, a great undertaking, speeding to reward with hope and momentum.

This is a card of waiting; a pause in the activity. Tarot Teaching akins this to Stop! Drop! Roll! from elementary school. Oh, I do remember those fire drills. The Stop is to cease action and reevaluation the situation; Drop into my consciousness and wait, quietly, for my next instructions; Roll or surrender to the carry of the wind. The Universe or the One knows where I need to be and I just need to let the 'breath' carry me.

The Hanged Man has visited before and for me, this card represents a change in perspective. From that prior post:

Is a card about suspension, not life or death. This is a time of trial or meditation, selflessness, sacrifice, prophecy. The Querent stops resisting; instead he makes himself vulnerable, sacrifices his position or opposition, and in doing so, gains illumination. Answers that eluded him become clear, solutions to problems are found. He sees the world differently, has almost mystical insights. This card can also imply a time when everything just stands still, a time of rest and reflection before moving on. Things will continue on in a moment, but for now, they float, timeless.
The Hanged Man symbolizes such moments of suspension between physical and mystical worlds. Such moments don't last, and they usually require some kind of sacrifice. Sacrifice of a belief or perspective, a wish, dream, hope, money, time or even selfhood. In order to gain, you must give. Sometimes you need to sacrifice cherished positions, open yourself to other truths, other perspectives in order to find solutions, in order to bring about change. One thing is certain, whether the insight is great or small, spiritual or mundane, once you have been the Hanged Man you never see things quite the same.

Interesting that this combination would appear today; I have completed the therapeutic massage program at the local community college and there is now a question over my CPR certification. The school has already sent a letter to the Certification Board stating I have completed the program. Add to that, the Grist Mill will have new ownership come 2/14/11. The Spa for whom I was going to work is located in the Inn. The new owners may want to change the arrangement and, well, I may not be needed after all. It is too early to say.

I am going to surrender and not fight - the winds of change are blowing, both in my personal life and in the world around me. Bend like the willow, I must.

The choice to let go

Last night is when the Tower's energy appeared; teenage hormones. *heavy sigh* I am happy to be in the Mother and soon Crone stage of my life. Maiden is just too wacky. The 7 of cups helped to remind me that I have choices on how to respond, some realistic and others not so much.

This morning, the 7 of cups appeared again with a companion of the 5 of swords. I still have choices with the swords indicating:

Concentrating narrowly on one's own self-interest, power play, battle, sacrifice of integrity.

If you look closely at the winged being, he is holding his had towards the viewer (me) in a manner of 'talk to the hand', or "not right now as I am busy watching the swan over there". It just came to me that I am the winged being with the two black swans being my daughters, each with their own swords (thoughts and ideas). Right now, I am concentrating on A16.

I have choices related to the hormonal rage displayed by A16 yesterday eve. Last night was a power play, a battle, and a sacrifice of integrity; no one really wins that type of conversation and I did not push. At this moment, she is not old enough to see life from where I stand. The decision I face is one experienced by mothers, everywhere and across the ages; when to loosen the bonds and allow this maturing soul room to grow...and make mistakes. My hope is that those mistakes will not bring too dear a price.

Rubble = new beginnings, new possibilities.

My first draw for today was the Tower. One of the few cards that fill me with apprehension and is a card that I have seen often; revelations, seeing through illusions.

Thinking back to Angela's and my brief discussion yesterday concerning the 8 of swords and how a clarifying card would be helpful, that is what I did today.

The 7 of Cups came to clarify the Tower. This version of the 7 of Cups reminds me of Ronnie (aka Beloved) and I; my head is in the clouds excited at all the possibilities and Ronnie is my grounding rod - helping to focus all the energy into attainable goals.

How do these two cards fit together? Though some tightly held ideas may fall, be proven incorrect/wrong, there are limitless possibilities to take that place.

Ok. I'll take it. =)

Such beauty, trapped.

Whenever the 8 of Swords appears, I wonder what tough decision will need to be made that day. This card has appeared many times since this journal began. Stephanie Pui-Mun has great insight:

Wasting energy on the trivial, frozen in crisis, restricted, confused, feeling powerless, trapped by circumstances.

In prior drawings, this card has represented indecision; action will be painful and inaction is not an option. Breaking this card down further, an eight represents movement, change, action, and power while the Swords represent movement and struggle; the effort before the end result. Restricted action due to indecision.

The focus is on withdrawal, limbo, handicaps, and imprisonment. The problem however is not with you, but with others. Remember that the main obstacle you face is not "what is", but fear and resistance caused by your perception of it.

I still struggle with my move to a full time massage therapist. It is the flow that causes my angst. The flow is there, just not 'flowing' at the moment. Now would be a good time to practice; a shame that I am at work instead of practicing!

Play me a tune

It has been an interesting time at the house: Ronnie is coming to terms with A16s male friend, whom Ronnie and I both dislike; no specific reason other than he is a player and the energy that surrounds him concerns me. My mom brought an un-neutered male cat to the house to see if he would be a good replacement for Mason and said cat (Thomas I named him) sprayed Ronnie's coat - not the way to win friends and influence people. Thomas had to return to Roanoke with Mom. Then this morning Ronnie's Mom called me in a tissy 'cause she was out of heating oil and the company would not bring her more until she paid $400; she has been on a $175/month payment plan that, has held to the plan when today, the company decided is inadequate. *sighs* This has been resolved...temporarily. We will brainstorm with her for the future.

I wondered what was in store when this morning, early, the Page of Wands appeared in my card for the day draw. Isn't she beautiful? Accompanied by a drum and bass, she plays a sultry, beautiful song, that by it's slow tempo, awakens the creative within.

I have become stymied in my massage therapist 'flow'; the sequence one follows to give a massage. I have a flow; it is not the flow I want and I know that my mentors are frustrated with the stilted transitions. The knowledge is in my head, stored behind a locked door and I only need to present the key. With daily practice and a dash of meditation access will be granted to the amazing flow and sequencing that awaits.

Let them grow

After a stressful couple of days and nights (hormonal teens in the house), the 10 of Wands appears. Normally I would see the number ten as completion of a cycle; however, the description of this card, from the companion, is dead on with what I am experiencing and to what Ronnie sees and gives voice:

So many demands and dependencies! She struggles and tries to keep her head uplifted, to hold to that center of creativity and nourishment.

Overextending, taking on far too much, burdened with overwhelming responsibility, being held accountable, doing things the hard way. Perhaps those little beings who live among her branches do not need the constant watchfulness and nourishment that she believes must be her duty. And yet it is given freely, the burden is taken on willingly, and she knows she has the strength within to bear it and flourish.

Wow! This speaks to the struggles of the last few days. I will concede that I do more for my girls than some would see as required or needed. "Lead by example" is what I tell Ronnie. He says "but they are using you and are not learning needed lessons!" Yes, to that I will agree. It is my opinion that children 'use' their parents because we allow them to. My girls are growing up fast - no longer needing me to help them along the way. It is tough to see them growing into adults that will no longer need my care. In the coming years, my biggest challenge will be watching them test their wings and leave the nest. *sighs* I do not want to think about that right now.

Emotions have been high at the house so drawing the 8 of Pentacles surprised me. Eights represent movement, action, change, and power.

I had to share the above - it is from this card on the Shadowscapes site. The companion book includes that this card represents a craftsman, "someone possessing great patience and who is attentive to details. It is a call to be absorbed into a project, to seek out knowledge, and pursue a higher understanding".

Yesterday afternoon I worked with the ladies of Warm Spirit Spa, learning about hot stone massage. Perhaps this is the project into which I am to become absorbed.

Such a beautiful card; she is creating and he is supporting. Three's are usually about achievement and, since this is a pentacle, that would be resource or physical achievement.

Teamwork, functioning as a unit together, competence, achieving beyond the expected.

Just yesterday I mailed away the paperwork and payment to request a testing date for massage therapy. I will be working with the sisters of Warm Spirit Spa and see, under their tutelage, unending opportunities.

Ronnie is always supportive of my endeavors, whether it be financial, creative, or construction related to the house. Without his support, it would be difficult to advance as much as I have. We make a good team. This man could also be representative of the support and help that the sisters are providing with regards to massage therapy.

Not the card I wanted to see while preparing to balance my check book:

Losing independence, addiction and enslavement, caught up in the material, overindulgement, choosing to stay in the dark, pleasures, lust, and desire.

Eek gads. As it turns out, this card is related to the feelings of hopelessness I had while completing the application to take the boards for my massage therapy license. That and receiving and EOB in the mail showing how much my insurance does not cover. *sighs* Notice the woman in the lower part of the card; how she is curled up covering her head. The devil appears to have her heart in his hands, manipulation the appearance of things. Well, well, well. I see it know. Time to look up and keep moving forward.

The 2011 spread review

In preparing for the first new moon, which was on the fourth, I realized that I did not do a first glance at how the new year looks overall. Pentacles represent the element of earth and speak to money and/or physical resources, things, and the body; seven pentacles appear for this year. That is just over half - guess one cannot have 6.5 pentacles, eh?

The later half of the year, beginning with the 7th new moon, is where the Major Arcana begin to appear; Major or dramatic evens things beyond my control. I have already stated that it will be this year that we see gas close to $5/gallon (meaning within 10 cents) and austerity measures being called into play. Just thought it would be before July... Perhaps not.

Despite my prepper, gloom & doom tendencies, I still look forward to this year with anticipation and excitement; my intent is that this will be a great year, tough at times I am sure (when is it not?), a learning experience none the less.

My first attempt at a year spread was kind of a flop; not that the spread was wrong, it was more that I did not keep up with it. Let's try again, beginning with the Gregorian Calendar new year.

With the new year, my card for the year becomes #20 - Judgement. Interesting because Judgement and the Queen of Pentacles have repeatedly shown up in daily draws.

Remember, the card for the year is determined by adding your birth month and day to the year i.e. for me that is 7+1+8+2+0+1+1 = 20 or, if we were doing numerology, that would be 2.

This is not numerology, per se, and I will look at the significance of the 2 at a later time. Judgement is an interesting card to draw for a new year; the companion book has a few key phrases that really speak to me:

There comes a time for everyone when an accounting must be held. It is time to evaluate the phase of life just past, to recognize and to appraise with an unbiased mind and honesty to oneself. Every action has its result, for good or for ill, to be rewarded or to bear the need for absolution and forgiveness, cleansing and atonement.

Last Thursday I told my immediate boss that there were opportunities for me to make some additional $$ thus improving the home finances (massage therapy). It would take me away from the office for several hours. He said to keep him posted and that he would step in when I needed to be away. While I will be floating between the two initially, there may come a day when I will not be at the office.

This card, for me, is more disturbing than Death. When I pulled this card, even before looking at the description, a thought appeared. I do not have the be one acted upon by the Tower message - I could be the one to deliver the message.

Shadowscapes has this to say:

Upheaval and sudden change, crisis, releasing all emotion, suffering a blow to the ego, revelation and seeing through illusions.

The Aeclectic Tarot says this:

With Mars as its ruling planet, the Tower is a card about war, a war between the structures of lies and the lightning flash of truth

It is however one of the clearest cards when it comes to meaning. False structures, false institutions, false beliefs are going to come tumbling down, suddenly, violently and all at once. What's important to remember as a tarot reader is that the one you're reading for likely does not know that something is false. Not yet.

stands for "false concepts and institutions that we take for real."

Nothing built on a lie, on falsehoods, can remain standing for long. Better to tear it all down and rebuild on the truth. It is not going to be pleasant or painless or easy, but it will be for the best.

Yesterday, I received a call from one of the local salons as they wanted to offer massage and wanted to speak with me. My classes just finished Wednesday and I have not yet applied for my provisional license. WOW! Then today I drew The World:

Satisfaction and peace of mind...When one's goals have been reached, there is a space, a quiet breath of a moment in time when a feeling of ultimate fulfillment spills through the consciousness. It is a state of completion.

An unexpected draw for today. I have yet to take the final test and am reviewing/studying for that now.

Ace of Cups

Still in awe of my new deck, Shadowscapes. Today's draw was the Ace of Cups; sadly there is not a picture already online that I can pull here.

It is another card of beginnings, in this case, of intuition. My intuition and creative self have been dormant for so long. Now with the start of my massage therapy work, this sleeping giant is beginning to wake. Cups (hearts) represent water, emotion, relationships, intuition, and creativity.

According to the year spread, this First Moon card is the 8 of Swords. She has appeared in numerous prior readings in both the upright and reverse. I am blinded by my own fears and ideas of what is. Moving from the mindset is necessary though not pain free. Remaining as is it not an option.

Massage therapy classes will be done 12/8 of this year and come with a 90 day provisional license. During that time I will work weekends with Warm Spirit Spa and pass my National Exam. This inertia, painful decision comes from my dilemma; caught between remaining where I am as an insurance agent - a steady income though not true to who I am (and work I do not enjoy)- and becoming a massage therapist where I can help others, exercise my right brain, and have a more lucrative income. Neither my tattoos or nose piercing are an issue for me as a massage therapist (where I'll be working anyway).

The little beetle in the left corner bears the sign of Gemini - communication. My challenge will lie in communicating to my current employer my desire to move from full time to at least part time status in the months following graduation.

This Celtic year I believe I'd like to complete a yearly reading; Into the Dawn provided my inspiration. Instead of beginning with January 1, I decided to use 10/31 as my new year. So using her method, my theme card for this year, 11/1/2010-11/1/2011, is # 19; the Sun. This theme card is determined by adding the numbers of your birth month+day+current year.

Some say this is one of, if not the best card in the deck - a sign of very happy and joyous times; dispels negativity and promises a happy ending. From another,

As the moon symbolized inspiration from the unconscious, from dreams, this card symbolizes discoveries made fully conscious and wide awake. This is science and math, beautifully constructed music, carefully reasoned philosophy. It is a card of intellect, clarity of mind, and feelings of youthful energy.

Both sites state that the birth of children is symbolized by this card; perhaps the Sun as portrayed in a different deck (other decks shows a child riding a white horse).

How do I know when the new moons are? This site lists the celestral events by year. The (R) beside some of the cards indicates a reversal. I am torn on whether or not to use these; it impacts the meaning and, prior to drawing these cards, I did not stipulate that reversals would not be read. Guess I'm committed yes?

Overall it would appear that Coins (pentacles) will rule the year with an equal number of the Major Arcana making an appearance. Coins cause me to think of money, of the physical world so perhaps this will become the year of my manifesting dreams; financial and otherwise. I am curious to see how the Majors fit into this mix. Let's start with this months card... just a little late in posting.

Ayurveda, Feng Shui, galactic signatures

Not a combination that I thought would go together; two different philosophies that are, perhaps, not so different. I was doing some reading in ayurveda medicine, read an email from red lotus about feng shui and ended up reading this article on feng shui and found that, according to Chinese metaphysics, there are 5 factors that influence one's life:

Destiny based on one's date of birth
Luck - these are themes one cycle's through every 5-10 years
Feng Shui - energy manipulation in the home
Attitude - how one carries oneself
Education - wisdom and classical education

There is a whole science related to Feng Shui so I am not going to try to explain the whole she-bang here. Numerology fits into this and, I must admit to have an affection for Numerology. Numbers are logic in its purest form; unemotional, uncaring, are what they are.

Addressing the first item, Destiny, how does one calculate that number? Using all the letters in your FULL BIRTH name and the chart below, add up all the letters of your name.

Yarrow sticks & the I-Ching

Yes, I've been away for awhile. My feelings hurt by Google's inability to help me recover from a hack attack. Blogger is still the best platform for me to use for journaling, so here I am.

Both last year and this I harvested yarrow sticks, some grown in the wild (harvested responsibly) and others cultivated in my back yard. Right now the stalks (some with blooms) are drying and the unanswered question was how long do these need to be and how many. This question was answered by First Name on tribe: 50 sticks, 6-8 inches long, thick enough to not break yet thin enough to hold 50 in your hand.

At some point this weekend I hope to measure out and cut the stalks to the correct length and see how many I have.

If you are so inclined, First Name also spelled out a modified "how to read the I-Ching" :

1. Hold the bundle in the left hand
2. Remove one stick with the right hand and set it aside.
3. Divide the bundle into two random batches.
4. Set one batch on your left and one on your right.
5. Take one stick from the right-hand batch and place it between the pinkie and the ring finger of your left hand.
6. using the right hand, reduce the left hand pile by fours until four or less sticks remain.
7. Place those that remain between the ring finger and middle finger of the left hand.
8. Push the discard pile to the side.
9. With the left hand reduce the right hand pile by fours until four or less remain.
10 Take these remaining sticks and place them between the middle finger and forefinger of the left hand.
11. The total number of sticks in the left hand should be either nine or five. Set them aside in a separate pile
12. The two piles in front of you should be gathered up and steps 3 through 10 repeated. The total number of sticks in the left hand should now be either eight or four. Set these aside in a second separate pile.
13. Combine the two large piles and repeat steps 3 through 10. Again you will end up with eight or four. Set them aside in a third separate pile.
This will give you your first, or bottom line. A small pile of nine or eight has a value of 2. A small pile with five or four has a value of 3.
Three 2's = 6 = ------- x -------- (a moving Yin line)
Two 2's and one 3 = 7 = ------------ (a Yang line)
One 2 and two 3's = 8 = ------- -------- (a Yin line)
Three 3's = 9 = ------o------- (a moving Yang line)

Repeat the process until you have six lies. The hexagram stands revealed. Follow which ever I Ching you use for the rest.

This draw comes as the result of my struggling to learn/fix some html for The Ward House. *sighs* I do not believe, though, that the cards are addressing my current struggle. I see, it may not be without flaws yet it is perfect and the du wacky, well it is what is is; odd. The website describes a dumbing down, as it were, of this bird from a tall stately fellow to this one. Go with the flow!

A tough conversation

Just prior to drawing these cards I was working on my Etsy shop. The dilemma for me is, when I first joined Etsy I created a login to make a purchase not realizing that it would also be my store address, if one were opened. Well, I opened a shop and am now conflicted on the name. The Ward House Mercantile is how it looks now, though that does not apply to www.lanniee.etsy.com. I was playing around with Cadauex de Lanniee (french for Gifts of Lanniee). Does this name sound like it would apply to Homesteading crafts? *bleck* So now to the drawing.

I need to try to relax, do not let the daily bruhaha's get to me; remember the dream and live/work towards that dream/goal. Pig/fish? Hmm. For me this card represents all those attitudes, thoughts, actions, etc. of close minded, hypocritical,double speak people that drive me nuts.

This morning was extremely stressful for me and I was in panic mode when drawing these cards; I do not want to be the first agent in this agency's history to have an error and omissions claim. Oy! As it turns out I did not make a mistake *whew* and all is 'well'.

When I first drew these cards, I hadnt a clue on what was being said - panic can really cloud the mind. Now that I've had lunch and am sitting back looking at these and reviewing the events of this morning I realize that all the information I needed was in the file, and in my boss' head, and all is ok - even though, at first, it did not appear to be. So word to the wise, document EVERYTHING! It'll help your tookis later.

Loosing more energy

Why am I allowing the energy leak to continue? Negative and positive energies can be mingled because these are always present. Perhaps by combining these, the leak will stop.

Ok, back to the energy leak. At first I thought this leak was due to clutter (and it still may) but now I wonder if it isn't financial concerns. Money is always tight, and will be more so for this next pay period. Not having the second job means there is no extra to carry me over til next payday. There is my leak.

Now I am confused. Continuing on with Ronnie and me talking about getting married, these cards were drawn this morning.

What I see is, Ronnie's and my relationship is perfect, whatever it is. I copied the card blurb from the site as it describes the card perfectly:

To Marry or not to marry

That is the question. Ronnie and I have talked about this in the past; our concerns were over how our relationship would change by the contract, taxes, any other legal snafoos that he has. All other's have been cleared up and the last question remaining was if/how our relationship would change. We have both been married before (I have been married twice before).

This morning I drew these cards:

Something is slowly, quickly, barely noticeably sapping my strength/energy. If do not locate and stop the leak I will eventually have no more to give. Emptiness. How do I feel right now? I know there is a leak, I have known there is a leak and never really spent that much time looking for it. I know where that leak is - I am a clutter bug and all those items pull on me. Time to declutter.

New Year's spread

Happy New Year! I have trying to catch up on all my blog reading and have finally finished. There are a few spreads I want to remember so these get posted here.

New Years spread from Tarot Dame's Blog
This one from Lizzie's Logic

I did not work a spread, or do much of anything actually, during this very auspicious time (blue moon & a lunar eclipse) so decided this morning was as good a time as any. Using Lizzie's spread, this is what I drew:

In the first position, influence(s) passing away with the year, is the 3 of Cups (r). This is where the keywords of the Companion come in handy. For this card, in the reverse, I am leaving behind excess partying and overindulgence. There were some other keywords like alcoholism, accidental pregnancy and failing marriage that do not really apply (I am not a drinker).

Next is accomplishments of the past year to reflect on; the King of Swords. Keywords fair, just, educated, expert, stern, humanistic, knowledgeable, goal-oriented and humanitarian.

Not bad, let's keep going. In the third position appears the Empress (my personal card). This represents goals for the coming year: fertility, material abundance, joy, satisfaction, bounty, prosperity, love, beauty, appreciation of beauty. Again, some keywords that do not apply (my tubes are cut), pregnancy and conception.

The Magician in the fourth position, I wrote down that this card was drawn upright yet I remember him in the reverse and that is how I photographed it. The reversed also fits this position, obstacles I may encounter this year: ego-driven, self absorbed, lying blunt, confused, self serving, hidden truth and cunning, lack of will power, mental disease, disgrace, and disquiet.

The fifth are energies to help. I have not had Temperance appear in my daily draw. The reversed keywords are confusing in this position: discord, competition, conflict of interest, lack of cooperation, overreatcion, 'out of sync', poor timing, scattered, impulsive. If this card were upright, those keywords would be tempering, moderation, modifying, compatibility, timing, accommodation, combining, purification and healing.

The sixth and final position, the overall theme for 2010, is the reversed hermit: withdrawn, paranoid, isolated, fearful, disguise, perfectionist, unreasonable caution. Upright is searching, solitude, meditation, being yourself, introspection, research and study, productive solitude, sage, seeker.

wow. Glad these cards suggest not a hard and fast future. Just a glimpse, if I stay in the current mindset, of what may be. The final two cards I see as the opportunity for growth, to change from the reversed to the upright meanings. This requires a bit more thought. I'll get back to you.

It's all in my head

When shuffling this morning, the 8 of Swords fell to the floor, picture up; the four of coins to the floor face down. I then stopped shuffling and just drew the top card thus welcoming the Queen of Cups. The first two cards in the order as they appeared on the floor. Has anyone noticed, in the 8 of Swords, how there is a ship in the harbor?

Both the 4 and the Queen are looking at me while the 8 is blindfolded; afraid to make a move. The 4 of Coins calls for a balance between excess and frugality; a daily struggle for me. One that I need to work everyday, thus the 8 of swords. It is not going to be easy yet I cannot stay in one place, stagnant. The swords that threaten are also a means of escape. This is a trap of ideas. Are all money troubles the result of how money is perceived?

This Queen, who is a cancer (me), represents comfort with emotional states. She is deliberate, caring, nurturing and practical. Go with the flow. I'm thinking she is my signifier.

Of coins and swords

Hmm, an intellectual reading composed of females. These cards were drawn prior to my checking the mail box to find financial aid papers waiting. The Page of Coins tells me learn a practical skill that can be used to support myself while creating beauty, health, and wealth. The 8 of Swords reminds me that no move is going to be painless; inertia is not an option. Lastly the Queen of Swords reminds me to allow my experiences to inform my decisions.

Cups, Wands and Coins

These cards were actually drawn on Saturday, the 18th and I have not touched my deck since then; 27" of snow, something that has not happened since 1995) was falling and we had to be out in it. =) I did not draw on the other days as I wanted to concentrate on these newcomers.

Ace Cups, Ace Wands (r), 5 Coins (r). I had no specific question in mind, just wanted to handle my cards. According to the Companion, keywords for the Ace of Cups are friendship, joy, happiness, love, intuition, subconscious. Google images does not have a pictures for the Legacy of the Divine Ace of Wands and since my camera is missing, cannot take a picture from my deck. This card's reversed keywords include overextended, scattered, delays, wrong direction, unmotivated. Lastly we come to the 5 of Coins, reversed: Carefulness, revived prosperity, successful budgeting.

Again, I am thinking that a specific spread will help me interpret what is being said. The Ace of Wands, reversed, causes me to question my decision to return to school. Looks like another spread is due.

8 Swords, the Emperor (r), 4 of Wands. Combined families can be extremely challenging and delicate yet, when it works, so rewarding. Last night was one of our more challenging moments. The challenge for us lies in how the adults relate/respond to the others children. We are not talking about young kids; 4 teen females. Our family totals 5 and of those 5, 4 are water signs. Hormones and high strung all the way around!

On to my draw; no specific spread for interpretation. I went to Thirteen's ebook of Tarot Card Meanings. For the 9 of Swords, too much has been made of this situation. Most of the problems are in our own minds. Well, yes; we each interpret information differently. The Emperor, being in control over my environment, body, temper, instincts, etc. gives me 'permission" to be aggressive, bold and in command. Lastly, the 4 of Wands. There is a great YouTube video about this card; check it out.
Interesting that the 4's are ruled by the Emperor and he is the card I drew before the wands. The Emperor also holds a wand in his hands. Hmmm. This number signifies stability, a strong foundation.

Why do I still feel so bad about the situation?

These cards (Strength, 8 coins r, 4 coins) were drawn in response to my question: Is now the time to begin my course in Massage therapy? Is this a wise decision financially? using the spread I mentioned yesterday.

At first glance, there are two coin/finance cards present. Strength is facing the reverse 8 of coins - I sometimes have the same look on my face when reviewing bills and wondering how it all will get paid.

Card 1 is factors in favor of the desired outcome. Insert strength here. Discipline. Ok I do have the discipline to finish this and do well; oh and self knowledge.
Card 2 is factors working against the desired outcome. Interesting that this card is in reverse. The Companion lists these keywords for the 8 of Coins in reverse: overly careful, hoarding, voided ambition, overqualified. Hmm. I can see myself being overly careful about taking on more debt.
Card 3 what is the deciding factor to help me make this decision. The 4 of Coins has been a faithful visitor of late which probably stems from my feeling of insecurity when it comes to finances.
"Constantly questioning if he has enough, he holds on tighter " or "a balance between excess and frugality is called for" are hints from the Companion.

Still at a loss, I went to the Aeclectic Tarot's ebook, Thirteen's Tarot Card Meanings and found some additional insight. Because Four's are ruled by the Emperor, this number signifies stability or a holding pattern. The author mentions that this a miserly card; 'not investing it in the future, just holding onto it, trying to keep it still and unchanging". Well, nothing is static; all things change whether we want them to or not.

I derive from this draw that a move towards this certification is positive and necessary - I called the school and left a message for the admissions clerk to call me.

Again it has come up about my taking massage therapy classes; time to address the question once and for all. I am hesitant to take on more debt, giving up the job I have now, and do I like massage therapy enough to take on that job? Will becoming a massage therapist allow me the free time to do some of the other things I want to do AND pay the bills?

So now comes how to ask the right question and what kind of spread to use. I went to Google and 'asked' tarot spread, yes/no. Tarotmoon was the first sight up. For a true yes/no question, an upright card means yes, assuming one follows through with what is associated with the card, reversed is no unless one deals with the issue presented in the card. Of the spreads listed, the one I favor is called Empowering 3-card spread.

Example question: "Will I be able to move to Chicago as I planned?" or "Will I marry John?"

Card 1: Factors in favor of the desired outcome
Card 2: Factors working against the desired outcome
Card 3: What is the most important factor that will help the client make this decision *or* if it is not their decision: What will be the deciding factor on which the decision is based

This spread does not give them a strict outcome, but it does provide lots of information the client can use to understand what is going on and why the end result is what it is. The reader can also look at the overall number of reversals and positive/negative cards to get a sense of how favorable or likely the situation is. Pay special attention to reversed cards in the reading, since these indicate areas where the client has the opportunity to improve the situation - where there is a blockage or obstacle of some kind that can be resolved for the better. Finally, if timing is an issue the reader wishes to deal with, the three cards can also be looked at for clues as to how long it may be before the outcome is known or the decision is made.

The author says that additional cards can be included to address other influences, the one I'd be interested in here would be market forces. Many say that massage therapy is a luxury and not something that can be used in an economy crash. I do not believe that what I do now, insurance, is going to be much help either; the effects, outcomes are already visible.

I'll pose this question this evening and let you know what turns up.

The choice between coins and cups

4 Coins (pentacles), Justice (r) and the Page of Cups. The story I see is Justice sits between these two 'offerings' though they cannot see what is offered. On the one hand, the man holds 4 coins in his hands though he holds them tightly. He does not want to give them up unless forced to. On the other hand, the youth offers the chalice freely and without reserve.

After reading the Companion, I see myself caught/standing between the career I have (financial stability) and my insanely creative side, that could make money, though I'd really have to work. The Justice card kind of throws me for a loop. According to the companion, Justice reversed keywords include: Know-it-all, conceited, perfectionist, vengeful, critical, injustice and loss, indecision, difficult, adjustments, inequality, legal complications, setbacks, prejudice, excess, bad luck, legal delay, mercy needed". Cannot say how these keywords fall into what I see.

Friday night my massage therapy friend asked me when I was going to start classes. I told her that I could not take on any more debt. Was struggling to pay off the school loans I had. She understood and was going to look into an apprenticeship program. See what that would entail. I need to ask the cards if I should just bite the bullet and take college classes. Anyone have a good yes/no spread?

Swords and Cups

Two Swords (r), 8 Swords, 7 Cups (r)

At first glance, the card I am most familiar with is the 8 of Swords as it resonated with me for awhile (especially during my 2nd divorce), and the 7 of Cups has made several appearances over the last few days. While shuffling I was asking what I could expect for the day yet was feeling frustrated with what has been going on at the house. I believe the cards were honed in on what I was feeling and not thinking.

The Companion's interpretation of these cards is insightful. For the 2 of Swords,

Two Swords, two ideas held apart, for now in equal balance. As with the Justice card, the veiled figure is not taking sides. Possible conflict has been avoided, and a temporary compromise has been made. It will do for now but at some point a more durable decision, a longer term solution, may be required.

My card was reversed, making the keywords duplicity, unwilling, unsure, falsehood, movement.

For the 8 of swords, it is a damned if you do, damned if you don't; a feeling of being powerless and trapped. This is usually a self imposed trap.

Lastly is my current, reappearing friend, the 7 of Cups, again reversed. In the past I have read this as not having a choice; the Companion has a different interpretation. In the reverse, it denotes "decisiveness, a realistic attitude, determination, good choice, a time for action". This card backs up the need for 'movement' in the 8 of Swords.

Yesterday evening I spent some quite time with my deck: the girls were at a sporting event, Beloved was still at work. After reading some of the articles on Llewellyn, I went back to a three card draw. There were several combinations that came up.

3 Coins, 4 Cups (r), 7 Cups
3 Cups, 9 Wands, the World
Faith, 10 Cups (r), the Fool
The World, Faith, Moon (r)

And then this morning, 10 Cups, The Wheel, 7 Cups(r). There is great unrest at my house; the cause is between my 15yo daughter, a 16yo boy, and my Beloved. Draw #4 and today's address this unrest. Allow me to include that my house is full of water: I am a Cancer, Beloved and 15yo are Pisces, youngest daughter (14) is a Scorpio. To say that emotions can run high is an understatement.

How I read #4 was the end of a cycle, the beginning of another cycle that will involve A15 challenging authority. Shaking my faith in her.

This morning feathers were still ruffled. Early I sat in the kitchen waiting for the fire to catch and drew the 10 of Cups, Wheel and 7 of Cups(r). Harmony will return, after a cycle, and I have no choice but to live and learn. *sighs* There is always a choice; however, this advice I will heed.

Spreads

I have found a great source of information in the Llewellyn Articles. This part stood out to me especially and post is now to not only share with you but so I have it handy. =) It is related to tarot history and spreads.

1. Draw one card
Each individual tarot card is filled with information and symbols. You can get a surprisingly in-depth answer by shuffling your deck, pulling one card and reading each symbol.

2. 1-2-3
Many people love three-card spreads (in fact, James Ricklef in Tarot Tells the Tale shows just how useful they can be). You can lay three cards in a row and read them from left to right as past, present and future. If your question is about whether or not you should do something, read the center card as the central issue, the card on the left as a possible outcome if you don’t do it, and the card on the right as a possible outcome if you decide to do it.

3. Five card stud
If you have to decide between two choices, lay one card to represent the main issue about the choice. Lay two cards to the left to represent the outcome of choice A and lay two cards to the right to represent the outcome of choice B.

Quick Tips
Bottoms Up!

After laying and interpreting a spread do you sometimes need to find out the underlying influence in a situation? Or maybe a subconscious motive or desire? Look at the card on the bottom of the deck. It never fails to give additional insight.

6 of Wands

When I first drew this, I thought it was the Knight of Wands. How could such an error be made if I were to just read the card? Well, playing this game of Solitaire, that uses the Rider-Waite deck. The knights in this deck look similar to my wands below. Another cool game is this jigsaw puzzle, again using the Rider-Waite deck.

Ok, back to the card. I see victory. He and the horse are all decked out and his spear holds a laurel. The Companion mentions how this card is about victory after a hard won battle, "acheiving crative goals in work, art and science. There is a payoff for taking a risk".

I am unaware of taking a risk. Perhaps I need to draw a trump card to clarify? Is it always a trump card that one draws to clarify something?

Page of Coins, 7 of Cups

Originally today was going to be just a one card draw day, which was the Page of Coins; however, the 7 of Cups caught my eye prior to shuffling so it was included. I did not have a specific question in mind when drawing these cards.

Starting with the Page of Coins: here is the picture of a young girl, white four leaf blooms are woven into her head band. She is dressed in simple yet elegant gold and green clothing with a golden broach, created in the shape of the earth element, at her collar bone. She holds in her hands a large disc/coin. At first look, she has the look of confidence and maturity that is beyond her years. The Companion discusses several possibilities: this card portends an opportunity for new growth although working from humble beginnings may be required, I am asked to learn practical skills that can be used to support myself and to create beauty, health, and wealth. I found the advice portion interesting: "Deal with issues realistically, directly, and in a forth right manner."

The 7 of Cups adds an interesting twist to this: choices. Many choices. Choices that do not provide all the information so I must rely on my gut to make the correct choice. The cup that caught my eye and that caused me to include the card into today's draw was the dragon, which represents the Sun. I chose a trump card and drew the Devil - things are not as they appear.

For several months now I have contemplated taking massage therapy classes. Several individuals have voiced affirmations to me that this is a path I need to take; it would certainly fall into place with the Page. The 7 of Cups seems to back up the Page, that is, until the Devil appeared. Things are not as they appear.

I need to think on this.

Court Cards

Over Thanksgiving break from work I discovered a book in my library, The Tarot According to You by Nancy Garen. In the first chapter she talks about the astrological signs associated with the court cards; cards that I find challenging to read at best. Llewellyn has the following chart in an article by David Allen Hulse, Hidden and Secret Meanings - The Court Cards part II.

The Sun

I've started just drawing one card a day instead of three in hopes of becoming familiar with that one card instead of trying to absorb three. Ideally I'd love to get with a group of people (online is fine) to work through the cards; have not yet found one that doesn't charge a monthly fee.

Today I drew the Sun; it is NOT a reflection of how I am feeling. It is exactly the opposite. I find it interesting to note that along the top of the card are signs of the Zodiac. That first sign on the left reminds me of the Star from the Gilded Tarot deck.

Funny that earlier this morning, after a series of misfortunes, I asked if these misfortunes were a sign of things to come for my day - then I draw the Sun. Guess that is a big NO! I am still waiting to see all the goodness that is to come with this card.

Cannot write more; My personal black cloud is getting ready to rain.

Last night our girls won the State Quarter Finals and Beloved canceled the cell phone service (he is still in 'the mood'). My mixed happiness and 'walking on egg shells' has prompted this draw:

Ace of Coins, 3 of Swords, Ace of Swords (r)

The Ace of Coins is a repeat and addresses finances. My girls are going to play in the State volleyball championships; this card speaks of the money that, as rumor has it, work put together to pay for my way to watch them play. What a blessing that would be.
I believe the 3 Swords speaks to the sorrow I feel over Beloved's and my strained relationship. I draw a blank with the Ace of Swords (r). The Companion uses words like obstacles, injustice, unnecessary conflict, weakness of will to describe this card in reverse.

Another tension filled evening as Beloved continues to work through financial issues with his ex. Unfortunately that continues to spill into the dealings between him and I and my children.

4 Cups, Hanging Man, 10 Swords
Two repeats from yesterday, the Hanging Man and 10 of Swords. I am thinking that a more defined spread needs to be used to help me get a better handle on what is being said. The man in the 4 of Cups is distracted from the three perfect cups he has beside him by the illusion in the air. Lisa over at Tarot Healing by Lisa, has this to say about the 4 of Cups:

Questions to ask yourself: Am I looking with gratitude on my life circumstances and resources or am I focused on what is missing? Do I set achievable goals for myself or am I happier daydreaming about things that I can not see myself bringing into physical reality? Do I believe that others are more capable of realising their dreams and being successful than I am?

Affirmation: I am grateful for all my creations and the gift of being uniquely me. Anything I can dream, I can do. I set achievable goals for myself.

Staying with Lisa's site, and her discussions of the Hanging Man, this is a time of inertia, in the middle. Well, I am currently caught in the middle between Beloved and my two teen girls. There needs to be some give/take between the three of them - is not happening atm. Lisa mentions a feeling of being stuck; Yes, I am stuck. There is so much I could do creatively yet I am held back due to time contraints- my day job (not complaining) and housekeeping/cooking that must occur while at home. The Aeclectic tarot adds,

Is a card about suspension, not life or death. This is a time of trial or meditation, selflessness, sacrifice, prophecy. The Querent stops resisting; instead he makes himself vulnerable, sacrifices his position or opposition, and in doing so, gains illumination. Answers that eluded him become clear, solutions to problems are found. He sees the world differently, has almost mystical insights. This card can also imply a time when everything just stands still, a time of rest and reflection before moving on. Things will continue on in a moment, but for now, they float, timeless.

The Hanged Man symbolizes such moments of suspension between physical and mystical worlds. Such moments don't last, and they usually require some kind of sacrifice. Sacrifice of a belief or perspective, a wish, dream, hope, money, time or even selfhood. In order to gain, you must give. Sometimes you need to sacrifice cherished positions, open yourself to other truths, other perspectives in order to find solutions, in order to bring about change. One thing is certain, whether the insight is great or small, spiritual or mundane, once you have been the Hanged Man you never see things quite the same.

Am I really having such a moment?

Lastly comes the 10 of Swords: back to the Aeclectic Tarot. Tens' indicate completion.

Sometimes everything just... goes... wrong. And this is a card that lets the Querent know that, yes, things are as bad as he fears. The troublesome swords can't get much worse than this, with bad things said about the Querent, perhaps even the ruin of their lives. But as the fellow in the card indicates, the swords have done their worse. You can't be more dead. It is over.

A very real pain can be seen here. Other decks portray the man as already dead, the swords pinning his broken body to the ground; in this card we watch his death. I read somewhere that this card speaks to mental anguish and while Lisa speaks to this in her discussion of this card, I've seen this meaning elsewhere. I am in control of my own thoughts and reactions, no one else.

On a brighter note, while walking home yesterday, I had a discovery and connection with the Star. A card of hope, renewal, returning to basics.

Yes, I did draw cards over the weekend; these two days are usually so packed with house stuff that blogging just doesnt happen. =)

Today we are graced with the Fool, 10 of Swords, and the Hanging Man. Two majors and one not so pleasant card. Ouchies!

The fool, a card of beginnings. The 10 of swords is also a card of beginnings - the is only one way from the bottom and that is up. Lastly is the Hanging Man, this card is in the middle of the Major cards, representing the half way mark and a change in perspective. Am I growing up?

Last night, all was repaired (apparently) between Beloved and I, yet there is still tension between Beloved and my girls. *shakes head*

Using the Divine, today's draw is full of logic: 7 swords, Ace swords, and the 4 coins reversed.

The 4 of Coins is not from the Divine deck as Google Images does not have an image of that card. Instead I am using the card from one of Ciro's other decks, the Tarot of Dreams. A beautiful card.

The story of this spread? Initially I saw a man, already carrying 5 swords entering the house via a balcony to steal the remaining two swords on the wall. The 10th sword (Ace) is suspended in the air and out of his reach. The man in the coins is offering money to the thief for the swords he has managed to steal.

After much reflection into the 4 coins I am rethinking that story- this bald man has stolen the swords from someone else and is bring them home to his house. He was not able to snatch that 10th and elusive swords (Ace). The 4 Coins shows this same man, the collector, showing off some of his collection.

The Companion from this deck is set up differently than other's I've used; it includes interpretations from several tarot experts. I am drawn back to the Divine's artwork for the 4 Coins. This man is richly glad and holds the four coins clutched closely to his face. From his right ear hang two different symbols (looks like jewelry), Virgo and the Sun. Here is where it would nice to be able to include unicode symbols; could not figure out how to include them into HTML. =/ It is like he wants you to see the goodies, but don't touch and do not tell anyone!

Ok, back to Swords. According to the Companion, key words for the 7 include partial success, subversion, sneakiness, hidden motives while carrying the advise of indirect action is required. The Ace of Swords; intellect, authority, cutting, piercing, creative thoughts, mental sharpness.

Prepare to move forward in new directions and with new ideas.

I find it interesting that as we enter the winter season, the specific season attached to this card is winter.

Now to return to the 4 coins: material prosperity, stability, financial stability. Advise: assume that the universe will provide. I especially like this phrase:

All good things and the wealth of the universe flow through this card. It is the perpetual flow and the source of physical abundance. This card represents the ability to provide for oneself. Be careful of being too controlling and protective of your resources; generosity begets generosity.

Divine is on the truck - woo hoo! =) I am anxiously awaiting the UPS dude.

Before I share today's draw, I must preface the cards with a quick comment about my current state of mind. Last night was an EXTREMELY charged night at the house. Lots of negative energy and anger pouring from both my beloved and his daughter, A18. So. . . on to the cards.

9 Swords (r), 4 Wands (r), and the World

At first glance, in the 9 of Swords I see woman resting and listening. it would appear that one of the 9 swords has come to whisper to her. Important information. It is interesting to note that the companion speaks of isolation and a troubling time -- um last night! The reverse of this card, warns me of working through this alone - help is at hand, closer than I realize. Swords are the intellect and mine has been sorely tried.

The four of wands shows me a glimpse of heaven amidst hell, as it were. Perhaps the swords are tell me to look beyond the hell I currently perceive. Keep in mind that the companion I am using is for the Gilded Tarot. Divine has arrived and is waiting for me at home so I'll have to wait to use that companion til tomorrow. =) Anyway, the Gilded companion speaks of dis-satifaction - this is not the time to be critical of the accomplishment of a happy home environment. *shakes head* It is interesting to note that our relationship, mine and beloveds, runs in cycles; days of peace and great happiness followed by days of angry words and frustration (words on his part, frustration on mine).

Lastly is the World. The cycle is complete and ready to begin again; days of peace and great happiness, satisfaction followed by days of angry words and frustration. *sighs* It is all very tiring.

I do not understand. My new deck shipped from Sterling VA (4 hours NE from here) and was then sent to MD, to Richmond, then to Roanoke (1.5 hours away) where it will go to WV and then here tomorrow. Seems to make more sense, and save gas, if it went from Sterling >Richmond>Roanoke>Hot Springs. *shrugs* I did request 2-day delivery so UPS will make sure it is not early. =)

Anyway, today's draw is the 7 of Cups, Ace of Pentacles (r) and the King of Swords (r). At first glance I see limitless potential - so many options though I know I can only pick one. The Ace of Pentacles I pulled into my story in the upright instead of the reversed. As an upright I saw that this was just the beginning and that it dealt with money/finances. I know that my Aunt is sending a nice check my way and these two cards speak to this. The question will be what to do with it? Pay off some bills, use the money to go back to school, for a trip to see my sister in Columbia (her husband works for the State Department). Lisa has an interesting interpretation for this Ace reversed:

The reversed Ace of Pentacles reminds me that things will happen when the time is right and that I just have to keep a steady pace.

The King of Swords throws me. He is logic personified - a talent/curse of mine. My heart (cups) and mind (swords, logic) war with each other. The Companion warns,

be aware of letting your intelligence define you in full. Seek balance in your own self-image and your dealings with others. Be careful of becoming a snob.

Even the companion is unhelpful. Perhaps I need to follow my heart on this one - be illogical (trip to Columbia) instead of making the logical choice (pay off some bills and go to school). I know my current job will not last forever, especially in light of how the economy is turning; fewer and fewer people will be able to afford insurance, cars, gas, and sadly their own homes. Others in the community have suggested, insistently, that I pursue a certificate in massage therapy. While this sounds good, it is scary as I am still trying to pay off other school loans (for a degree that I cannot use) and am hesitant to take on any additional expenses. What guarantee is there that this new certification will provide an income? It would definately feed my creative side and get me out of all this logic (not that logic is a bad thing). My creative side is lost.

Tarot Journaling

This book is in my personal library (not a paid endorsement) and today I found this online page, related to the book, that includes printable journal pages, including a blank Celtic Cross. This blog will continue, I am wondering, though, about using a paper journal as well; easy to transport, is not dependent upon internet access or electricity.

Your thoughts? Do you use strictly an online journal or just paper or both? What do you use?

Oh, and Amazon just sent confirmation that my order shipped. I requested two day delivery, perhaps it'll arrive tomorrow.

5 of wands (r), 3 of cups, Wheel of Fortune

When I look at the 5 of Wands I see inner conflict. It is interesting that there are 5 combatants: earth, air, water, fire, and spirit. The 3 of Cups, well, she is dancing and weaving her musical, creative talents and then the Wheel. I am not sure about the wheel. The book from my Gilded Tarot speaks about change, sometimes things happen just because and meant against me personally. I like Lisa's interpretation:

The Legacy of the Divine Wheel of Fortune features several versions of the Fool (i.e. you and me) along various stages of the turning of the Great Wheel. In the background we see the Jupiter, the planet of good fortune and expansion.

The upright Wheel heralds a time to take risks. Grab the opportunity with both hands - it may only come along once in a life time! Whatever lesson you are drawing to yourself is a lesson that most definitely will grow your soul, and it's one that your soul is prepared for even if your personality/ego is not. You have nothing to lose.

"To love is to risk not being loved in return. To hope is to risk pain. To try is to risk failure, but risk must be taken because the greatest hazard in life is to risk nothing."

After this draw, with great excitement and some guilt (a common feeling when I buy something that is a want and not a need), the Legacy of the Divine Tarot was ordered and should arrive on Thursday. This draw now makes sense.

All cards today are reversed: Empress, Emperor, Queen of Swords. Not sure what's up with the placement of these cards. *shrugs*

It suprised me to see two of the Majors in this spread. What I see? The Empress and Emperor are akin to the God & Goddess and the Queen is guarding them.

Before I go further with this reading, I have to say that my Mom just offered to help fund my going to Bogota with her and my daughters A15 & K14, to see my sister. This would mean saving for one more ticket (Ronnie's) and making arrangements for spending cash and taking care of Otis. Hmm. Now to the Companion...

The Empress reminds me to maintain a healthy balance and not let my emotions or actions become obsessive or controlling. Not to allow a chaotic proliferation by trying to do too much (hmmm, check out the Ward House to see what I wrote before posting this!).
Now the Emperor cautions me against stagnating or stifling rules and regulations. Do not create order just for the sake of order. Learn when to question the obligations and mores of society.
The Queen packs the punch; be aware of depending too much on order. Remember to be flexible when things do not go my way. Allow others to behave as they believe right; my ways are not theirs. Do not divorce myself from my emotions in order to protect myself.

I find myself unable to express how true these cards are.

What I see a messanger coming to deliver a message to the Page, who is watching a contest. The final card is not part of the gilded tarot - Google images did not have one for my deck. In my card, the men are fighting against each other instead of as a group.

It amazes me that there are no images on Google for any of these cards. At some point I will need to break down and take a picture of each card in my deck and upload it to use for this journal. Perhaps this weekend!

These cards are not in front of me atm so from memory, it appears that the man in the 7 of wands is being pushed out the door by the other 6. This door is already partially opened and one can see a balcony on the other side. I want to say that he is getting ready to lead the other 6 onto the balcony to be like an honorary guard for some pagentry. My gut says that the first insight is the correct on.

I have nothing for the Ace. I know it is a card of beginnings.

King of Cups. Well, this man looks happy, relaxed and very satisfied.

What about the companion?

The Companion clarifies my initial thought on the 7 of Wands: I am being asked to clarify my beliefs; this 'attack' is not to be feared but rather used to clarify my understanding of what I do believe.
Ace of Pentalces, reversed: I have been given a gift and must be careful to not squander or belittle it as not a true gift.
King of Cups, reversed: Be aware of focusing on what I do not have. Interesting that the upright of this card states that "in gaining accomplishments, I have lost touch with my creative side. . . " Very true!

In searching for the images for today's draw, I keep finding images for the Divine Tarot, which is a deck I would love to own. The King of Cups appears to be saying, Stop focusing on the deck you do not have and learn to use the one you have". As for the 7 of Wands, I have been thinking on my spiritual journey, where I've been, am now, and going; from Southern Baptist, to Wiccan, to. . . Pagan? I do not cast circles or write spells, I do read tarot and tonite will use a pendulum for the first time in two decades, had my nose pierced in the Hindu tradition (left nostril) and have a mini altar to Ganesh on my desk at work (Altoids tin with a picture of Ganesh and a match (to represent a candle).

A belief system goes deeper than the religion we call ourselves.

Tonite I hope to use the pendulum to talk to the guest that lives upstairs - find out who she is. I am cautious and apprehensive as I do not want to create a problem where one currently does not exist. Any thoughts? I am going to Google suggestions (casting a circle, etc).

Today's cards were all reversed: 2 Cups, 2 Pentacles, Judgement. I did not reverse them here 'cause I'm just lazy. =)

What do I see? Lots of 2's (2,2,20). So 2's are a crossroad, choice and represents duality and balance. These numbers added together equal 6; in numerology 6's represents:

he Six, 6, is pregnant with love. It is the number of family and social responsibility. The social responsibilities of the Six create a need to understand and gain insight, a need to find some way of placing experiences into a meaningful whole.

This story is a bit more challenging for me to put together; perhaps I made the mistake of reading the companion first! This is all about finding a balance.

The last card is important: I have been called to do something and must be careful not to ignore the call or back away from it from fear or worry about what others may think. This phrase really spoke to me, from the Companion written by Barbara Moore:

Do not feel compelled to dance to anyone else's tune, and do not ignore the music of your own heart.

Now I must figure out what call and what relationship, business or otherwise, has presented itself? Ronnie constantly telling me not to give up the dance and I feel called to double my efforts to learn my deck. The talent is there, I just need to exercise it! What else? Crafting? There is so much I want to do and it does not include the job I now have. Bills demand to be paid so I cannot really give this up without having something to fall back on. Now, if I did not have a mortgage? Well, then the rest is very doable. I can make enough to cover the utilities and groceries with just waiting tables or learning massage therapy. Hmmms. Perhaps that is the call- to go back to school to learn massage therapy. That is the worrying about what others think. I'll have to talk to the Community College again. See what we can arrange. The pieces did not fall into place quick enough last time, perhaps now they will.

Today's draw:
4 Cups, 5 Cups (r), Ace Cups (r)

Last night and this morning were emotionally charged; something that happens when adult children and their parents get involved in boyfriend drama. My girls were not involved, however my boyfriends daugther was and there was trickle down.

The story as I see it from above, this kid kept turning away cups thinking that the next would be better (4C), offer more until there were no more cups(5C). Now he is crying as he let all those opportunities go and now has nothing. The reversed Ace Cups reminds me of when your drinking shots and slam your shot glass down, opening on the counter, as if to say, "No more, it is done.".

I have an update on Annabel - there was not an Annabel in the house as far as anyone knows. The only known person to pass in the house was Madolene Ward - the mother of the family from whom I bought the house. I wonder if Annabel is really Madolene as a young woman at an age she thinks/remembers herself. I've also asked which room was hers growing up. Looks like the thing to do is use a pendulum on Friday nite (we will be away on the 31st) and just ask.

Ok, I have a story for today's draw (8 Pentacles, Knight Wands, Hermit) and then I'll look at the meanings. The boy in the 8 of pentacles is preparing information that the Knight is carrying to the Hermit before he leaves for his seclusion.

This draw, though, had two reverse cards: 8 pentacles and the knight. Using this information, I must be aware of driving myself too hard and to the exclusion of all else. Be aware of recklessness - Fools and the Knight of Wands rush in where angels fear to tread! The Hermit is reminding me to refocus on who I am and what I believe.

I do feel so hectic these days; rushing along, just trying to stay on the horse!

I am inspired by the Tarot Dame (TD)and how easily she reads her cards, regardless of the deck. When I grow up I want to be able to read like her!

Now for today. At first glimpse, this is what I see:

all cards are from the Minors
The characters in the first two cards have their backs to me.

8 cups: I have been distracted from my path. Looks like I have become refocused.

3 wands:I have made a choice and must now wait for the outcome. Being impatient will not affect or hurry things along.

Ace Swords(r):This ace is a gift of intellect. Be careful of having a sharp tongue. A clever wit or a desire for honesty are also gifts. Do not use them in a destructive manner.

Now TD would read these three cards as a story and this is where I get hung up. My creative side continues to be stuck; well that and I end up thinking about my draw while doing something else. The same hesitation is experienced when I am trying to dance (tribal); Dancing is spontaneous while in my head and becomes disjointed when translated to my limbs. *sighs* It'll un-stick and then WOW!

What comes to mind is that I was distracted on what I was reading from the webbots about 10/25 and what could happen - it never happened, or not that has been reported by CNN or CBS or any of the other major sites. Now that the fateful day has passed, I am back into the regular flow. Ace of Swords also makes sense; watching my tongue and not voicing everything that goes through my head is a constant 'task'. Not a bad task, just something that must be done, like eating and breathing. The 3 of Wands has me a bit confused. Not sure what decision has been made. I'll have consult some additional sources.

Yesterday evening, after arriving home from work and getting settled, I asked if Teen's name was Annabelle or it if was ok if I called her back; yes was the answer. Not sure if it is her name yet received the ok to call her that.
A18 stayed with her BF last night so all was quiet upstairs. Ronnie, though, could not sleep (we had an emotionally charged evening, not pleasant) so he went to A18s room to sleep after tossing and turning in our bed. While upstairs he dreamt that Annabelle crawled under the sheets (like in the preveiews of Paranormal Activity) and began to shake the bed. He said it was a dream though it felt like he was awake. He came back downstairs, crawled back into bed with me and dreamed the same dream only now I had a face that had grown into the palm of my hand. A co worker associated the face/palm with my comment on drawing a rune onto one of the many leftover tiles we had to 'protect' A18 and provide an emotional comfort. Hmmms

With all of the above excitement, I did not draw cards this morning.

UPDATE: I did some quick research while at work and found there was an Annabel in the family though I have not been able to find if she ever lived in the house. The Annabel I have a sense of may not be this one. *shrugs* I've sent an email to the previous family to see if they know of Annabel - I did not go into detail about why I ask! Some people get defensive about this type of question.

I follow several blogs and today I did some back reading and found this post from Haunted Swamp Designs. She talks about the family 'hauntings' that go on in her homeplace - a home that has been in the family for several generations and has been the site for many family passings.

The Ward House is not a generational home so the 'family' we inherited is not of my earthly family. In commenting on Lynda's blog I mentioned how we have a teen that hangs out upstairs. She is about 15 and has long black hair that falls over the front of her shoulders - the same way my oldest likes to wear her hair. It struck me, when I wrote this, that she looks exactly like a visitor I had as a young child: I woke to have someone dressed in white but with long hair, flowing like rivelets down the front of her dress, walking towards me with her arms opened, like to catch me if I were to jump from off the top bunk (which is where I was sleeping). One of my more terrifying moments.

The teen who hangs out upstairs, I believe, lives in the bedroom that was once my oldest daughters and is now my step daughters (A18). Teen has been very visible since A18 moved in last week. I've asked that she not let A18 see her as it scares A18 witless. I also explained that A18 is part of the family and belongs with us. It has been quiet so far.

I was just wondering what teen's name was and out of the blue can the name Annabelle. When I get home I'll ask her tonite if it ok if I use that as her name.

Ok, enough ghost stories. On to my drawing for today.

4 Wands - what ever is being built, is done; established, strong, solid. Bask in the feeling of success. It can also symbolize marriage - funny 'cause Ronnie and I have talked of marriage and may hold a handfasting instead.

8 Swords (r) Damned if I do, damned if I do not. The blindfold and ropes are my own fears. Endure the cuts and break free of the bindings. To not move and break free is to strengthen the bounds. This would be true of an upright card, to reverse it is to say that I have broken free. It feels good.

10 Swords Yes, it is as bad as it appears. Shit happens. The bright side is that it is over. one cannot be any more 'dead'.

All the above comes from the Aeclectic Tarot, with exception to the reversed meaning. No major arcana so I am in the details of everyday living. *whew*

My youngest, K13, was sent home from school today for having a 101.4 temp. When we arrived home it was up to 102. So amidst all the cooties, I drew the following cards, all of these are repeats:

9 Pentacles (R) Great accomplishments, the creation of a comfortable lifestyle. I think that the R brings in that I need not be afraid of making changes, if the need should arise. All will not be lost.

10 Wands: I am almost finished, do not quit short.

Wheel of Fortune (R) Thirteen's comments include :Karmic good luck, this card is about the big things and almost always good fortune. The Companion is that the Wheel of Fortune is basically luck of the draw. It cautions against using this as an excuse for blaming circumstances that are within my control on an outside force.

Now I just need to figure out what I'm trying to say. Oy!

Today's draw (all R) 8 of pentacles, Wheel of Fortune, and the Chariot. The Wheel of Fortune is a repeat. I am going to try to incorporate the Reverse meaning for cards as they appear.

8 Pentacles: I need to be careful of driving myself too hard, excluding all else.

Wheel of Fortune: Sometimes s**t happens through no fault of my own. It is what it is.

Chariot: Be wary of repressing issues or turning away from puzzling ideas. There is always something to learn.

Now the above is from the Gilded Tarot companion. The Aeclectic Tarot publishes card meanings on their website and in an ebook-Thirteen's Tarot Card Meanings ($7.95); I went ahead and purchased the ebook. It is information I want to have available in print, in case my computer dies or I loose power. You know, 12/21/2012 stuff.

Anyway, in the above ebook, she has an interesting insight into the Chariot,

The chariot is one of the most complex cards to define. On its most basic level, it implies war, a struggle, and an eventual, hard-won victory; either over enemies, obstacles, nature, the beasts inside you, or to just get what you want. But there is a great deal more to it. The charioteer wears emblems of the sun, yet the sign behind this card is Cancer, the moom. The cariot is all about motion, and yet it is often shown as stationary.

Quite a mouthful. Interesting to note that I am a Cancer. The rest of the information also applies. It is a union of opposites, both control and confidence are needed to create this union. She ends with,

It can also imply, on a more pagmatic level, a trip (usually by car), a vehicle - in the shop for repairs if the card comes up reversed - or a message.

Today's draw: King Cups, Queen Wands, Ace Cups.

Have you noticed that the embroidered design in the King and Queen's robes are the same? Different suits though.

Ok, let's break this down. The companion guide describes the court cards as actors on a stage; they can represent other people or aspects of ourselves.

The King of Cups shows a someone who has been successful at creating a life yet seems to be missing something. He looks sad. The Companion suggests success that has come at the cost of creativity. Well, truer words were never sad.

The Queen of Wands shows quietly contained passion; seeking for a creative outlet. Activity is enjoyed for activities sack.

Lastly is again the Ace of Cups: the beginning of a new adventure (creative, love, etc).

Again, photos maybe this weekend.

Today's draw: 3 pentacles, 9 pentacles, Ace cups.

Interesting since I was emotionally charged after speaking with the high school principle concerning my youngest and her inability to filter what she thinks and says. *sighs*

3 pentacles: Of all the 3's, this card is closest to the Empress (which is my personal card).

This craftsman creates and delights in the creation; he loves the process and the product.

There are several skills that bring joy in not only the creative process but also the creation itself: knitting/crafting, writing, bellydance, cooking... "If you do what you love, you will never work a day in your life!" I do not remember who originally said that - it is true.

9 pentacles: the companion book has this to say:

Like the hermit, she has chosen a life alone, which she does not seem to mind at all.

This card reflects abundance - look at all the pentacles. She is happy. I do have much to be thankful for and am happy.

Ace Cups:drawn along by a feeling. Well, yes. Last night and this morning I most certainly was carried along by a feeling. See all the water, the moon? One cannot help it.

Read or Dance

The past several weeks I have been vacillating over what to do - continue with tarot or concentrate my energies on dancing. One cannot work full time, care for a family, garden, AND read tarot AND study belly dance (I want to be like these ladies when I grow up). Enough time in the day there is not, as Yoda would say.

This is my draw from this evening, no specific question; I just wanted to blog. All Minor Arcana tells me that it is in the details, all wands that this is about career, projects, inspiration. The companion book has a much different opinion than what I see here with the exception of the 2 wands. Tthe paths look identical down to the stags, each to the left of the wand. There is no logical method to determine the best route. Which way do I go?

Fast forward to near completion; the 9 of wands, I see a solider who is tired and propping himself up on one, there are 9 more standing ready behind him. He may even be praying. I see this as taking a breather. Recoup and then keep going. Praying for the strength to continue? Certainly! Almost there.

Lastly the 10 of wands. He is carrying all 10 wands and they look awkward more then heavy. He's looking up, towards the top; usually one's head is bent down by the weight. Notice the 2 stags here? They could be the same ones in the 2 wands; same stance. I wonder if the one path that was split in the 2 have now become one again? In numerology, 10 = 1+ 0 = 1. Night is falling.

What is the task that is nearly complete? What have I been carrying around? Is it the choice between Tarot and Dance? I believe so. Your opinion?

The Emperor

From the Describe a Card exercise I decided to use a newcomer to my daily draw; the emperor. To refresh your memory, that exercise is:

Describe the Card. Describe the card with as much detail as you can muster. Write as if you were describing it to someone who can't see it. What images, symbols, or colors catch your eye? What is the significance of the suit, the element, the number, and the astrological correspondence? Are there any props in the picture: how are the figures standing, sitting, or gesturing?

Sounds easy enough, eh? Here goes.
Here stands a distinguished man in his forties. Mature yet not graying (or he is using the Formula!); he is dressed grecian style with a white under toga, light navy blue over tunic with embroidered gold suns and stars toped with a blood red silk wrap with more embroidered suns. The blue tunic is girdled with gold rope, kind of like an empire waste, with the red silk fastened to the blue, at his right shoulder, with a gold sun pendant.
He wears a golden olive leaf 'crown', just like the emperor's of old. The red silk is draped over his right arm and on that hand he wears a red ruby ring (or is it garnet) and holds a long staff with a duplicate of the universe at it's upper end. His left hand points down with palm facing me; his wrist is adorned with a golden cuff studded with jewels along the top and bottom.
Behind him a pastel sunset that becomes a star studded sky; a ring of the zodiac floats behind him. He appears to be standing on dark clouds

This is the fourth card in the Major Arcana; the number four represents stability and also brings the risk of stagnation. He is associated with the first sign of the Zodiac, Aries; Aries are fiery, authoritative, powerful and very egotistical (from Wikipedia). Wikipedia also mentions that the Emperor is sometimes something to be overcome; rigidity of thinking, an inflexible approach, external force keeping me from my destiny. Perhaps a comforting myth that I have outgrown or an exterior force that I must accommodate.

His symbol is the Sun and that is seen in not only in the decoration of his robes but also in the solar system he holds in his right hand - it is life. Everything else orbits around him. The Emperor is an authority figure. Who holds that spot in my life? My employer, at the moment; it is a player that changed as I have grown. It started out as my father, then my mother, then to employer. I have strong emperor qualities in my own personality.

Tarot Journaling

I get so impatient when trying to learn something new; this book, Tarot Journaling, has been a big help in focusing my energies. Of the many different exercises, I am going to use this one for a few entries:

Current Decks

It has been awhile since I posted - my apologies; fall is a happenin' time at the Ward House - lots of canning, gardening, wood cutting, high school sports, school activities, etc.

Since I have not pulled three cards during this time, today I thought I'd share about the decks I currently own - all three of them! =) Some people collect decks and if finances would allow, I would be among their ranks. Some of these decks have amazing artwork and would make great crafting materials (for display, etc). I do not mean that sacrilegiously; these are to be enjoyed as works of art.

My first deck was Tarot of the Cat People. Not sure what drew me to the deck other than I had just met my cat, Mason; a mixed manx that was totally amazing. He has moved on and I miss him terribly. *sighs* Cannot say more as the tears will begin flowing, again.

I then moved to the Goddess Tarot. Again, the deck resounded with me; the graphics and card descriptions. Much was learned about goddesses in various religions. Enjoying eye candy, my next move was to the Guilded Tarot; I just love this artwork. It speaks to me which improves interpretation. Being photojournalist challenged, if I can get pictures of my daily draw to come out, I'll begin including some visual aids.

The wanderlust has set in and I am again looking to purchase another deck. These are on my wish list:

Tarot of the Sweet Twilight
Legacy of the Divine Tarot (same artist as the Guilded Tarot).

Now wanting a new deck is much different than being able to afford a new deck. Perhaps this winter, when the gathering time is done and cooler weather brings on feelings of hibernation, I will have more time for contemplation and tarot journaling.

How to read Tarot

I am not what many would call an expert on how to read Tarot. I have owned several decks over the years and went through spurts of readings and then the deck would be put away for several months before seeing the light of day again or replaced by a new deck.
Of all the books available to help you on the road to reading Tarot, the one I am using right now is the companion book for the Gilded Tarot; this booklet has a wealth of information and different exercises.

One piece I did want to remember for later is the meanings of the numbers for the Minor Arcana. I'll post little tidbits like this as I go.

Ace: new beginnings or opportunities
Two: a crossroads or choice, balance, duality
Three: achievement
Four: structure, stability, or stagnation
Five: instability, conflict, loss, opportunity for change
Six: Communication, problem solving, cooperation
Seven: Reflection, assessment, motives
Eight: Movement, action, change, power

Forgive my lack of photographic prowess - it was dark this morning and the flash was too bright. Today's 3 card spread gives an interesting read. Now I am new at this and rely heavily on the book that came with this deck.

The correct order of my draw was the7 of pentacles, 3 of Cups and 9 of pentacles. Money has been on my mind quite a bit lately, especially with my dropping a second job just prior to receiving news of additional layoffs at my work; I was not let go and was allowed to stay with a 15% pay cut. *ouchies*

7 of Pentacles: It looks like she is waiting patiently for the seeds to finish growing and ripen. Since this is Pentacles we are talking about then it is encouraging to think that some of the monetary plans I've made are slowly ripening, getting ready to come to fruition.
3 of Cups: Three women, obviously joyous and celebratory. I do have much to be thankful for and to celebrate. When I look at this card I think of my two daughters, now young women and myself. Our cups run over.
9 of Pentacles: This woman is successful; look at her cloths and what surrounds her. Her companion is a hooded falcon. I'm sure that means something, just not sure. Am I hiding something from myself? Is there something I do not want to see or acknowledge?

Hmmm.
